Seminar: “Optimizing Limited Space to Provide Excellent Library Services” (11 Apr 2025)

Joint Seminar between JULAC, HKU Libraries, and IFLA Library Buildings & Equipment Section

In April 2025, a delegation of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) comprising 21 members visited JULAC libraries in Hong Kong. The visit marked the start of the Mid-Year meeting of IFLA Library Buildings and Equipment Section (LBES) in China. On 11 April, a half-day seminar titled “Optimizing Limited Space to Provide Excellent Library Services” was co-organized by JULAC, HKU Libraries, and IFLA LBES. Presentations were delivered by six JULAC colleagues, along with two architects: Angela Pang, who designed spaces in CUHK and PolyU Library’s new extension, and Elisabeth Martin, a member of the IFLA LBES.

The IFLA LBES Mid-Year meeting opened with this JULAC seminar and was followed by a conference on “Building a Sustainable Library” in Beijing Capital Library. The seminar in mainland China was co-hosted with the Library Society of China, and site visits to libraries in Shanghai and the surrounding region. Members of the IFLA LBES expressed sincere thanks for JULAC’s hospitality. All members of the group were extremely pleased with the organisation and delivery of the visit to Hong Kong.
